February Happenings

This month has been another busy month with efforts placed in the following areas:

Fruit tree pruning: March is the last window for fruit tree pruning and care. we have been diligently pruning and removing unwanted overgrowth from our plum trees, both east and west parcel orchards. The last remaining trees to prune are the large overgrown apples, and fig tree.

New Garden Development: The area bordering Bill and Judy's fence has been cleared and planted with overflow from the pollinator garden. This area will be used for group plantings available to be spread throughout the arboretum.

Mowing:  The grass mowing has begun! Smaller areas that are easily mowed with the walk behind have been mowed, while the large areas will be started in the next few weeks.

Moss removal from driveway: I have started pressure washing the driveways to remove the moss growth. A chemical spray was used first to kill the bulk of the material, while pressure washing is needed to remove the slippery, left behind dead material.

Pathway repair to North Trail:  Weeding by one of our volunteers on the south side of the north trail has caused erosion and an unsafe footpath. Trail rebuilding utilizing "T" posts, cuttings from fruit trees, and fill dirt have been added to level the walking surface and prevent slips and falls, with gravel to be added to finish the pathway.
