Caboose Work Party 2/25

When we started work, we were inside a cloud. Later, the sun burned off the fog and it was a beautiful sunny day. We saw group of sea lions heading down stream. I guess the salmon run must have ended. We got a lot done with just Gene, Jay and me working this week. The west wall had to be jacked up again so the 3/4” pressure treated plywood could be slid in under the wall. A cut-off from when the rafters were made was used as a backer board to screw the floor to. All the  rotted and punky wood was removed from the timber beams. Once we got down to good wood, borate solution was sprayed on. Borate kills the fungus that causes rot and it also kills termites and carpenter ants. We removed a pretty extensive carpenter ant nest in one of the beams. Jay and Gene working on the floor and then admiring their excellent workmanship! The west wall is finally fully supported on a solid floor. I must be having fun! We had to cut into one of the bunk lockers to get all the rotten boards out. The south wall is still just hanging in the air. Next work party, we will finish installing the plywood for the floor. Then put down a base plate and sister up the rotted ends of the frame studs. We are making progress!
